Alpha mattes with VFX Rotoscopy & Keying
The Secret behind world-class Visual Effects is always a perfect execution of rotoscopy or keying
01
Keying
The quality of the output obtained through chroma keying can often be the difference between good and great production. The impact of chroma keying today’s time is far-reaching and is seen in nearly every movie made today. As a craft, it requires a lot of technical skill and attention to detail, but as a team, we understand when it’s done right, the results can be stunning.

As a team, we understand its importance and the impact it has on the final composites that the general audience sees and appreciates. Rotoscoping is an art form that’s truly rewarding in the end. Frequently Asked Question
Full-body roto, object isolation, garbage mattes, edge refinement, chroma keying, difference mattes, and luma keys. We also handle prep work like despill and edge color correction.
Yes. While proper green/blue screen speeds things up, we regularly extract subjects from natural backgrounds using rotoscopy and difference mattes.
EXR or PNG sequences with embedded alpha, or separate matte passes. We also export editable splines if you need to make adjustments downstream in other softwares
Yes. We preserve natural motion blur. If you need clean hard edges with synthetic blur added later, we can do that instead. Just specify upfront.
We check edge consistency frame-by-frame, looking for chatter, edge creep, and detail loss. Mattes are tested over multiple backgrounds before delivery to ensure they hold up in comp.
Simple: clean edges, minimal motion, solid contrast against background. Complex: hair, fur, transparency, fast motion, multiple overlapping subjects, or backgrounds that blend with the subject.
The shots, what needs isolating, and your intended use (comp over new BG, color grade isolation, etc.). Knowing the downstream application helps us deliver the right edge quality.
Depends on complexity and volume. Standard delivery is 3-5 days for a handful of shots. Larger batches are scoped with realistic weekly quotas.
Per shot, factoring in duration, complexity, and number of subjects. Hair and transparency add cost. We quote upfront so you know exactly what to expect.
Send us the issue and we'll revise. If it's an edge quality problem or a missed detail, we fix it, no pushback. Revisions are part of the process.
Some of the most frequently asked questions we get
Getting Started
The recommended way to ask for a quote is by filling out the form. It provides us with the necessary details of the project that will help you in getting a quote. For an informal conversation, you can reach out to us through hello@fxiationdigital.com
Send us your shots and brief. We'll review, ask clarifying questions if needed, and return a detailed quote, mostly within 24 hours or way sooner. Once approved, we begin work immediately.
No minimum. We handle single shots to multi-thousand-shot projects. Send us what you have.
We work with whatever your production requires. Quote approval, PO, NDA, or your standard MSA. We're set up to match your process.
Pricing & Payment
We prefer to quote on a fixed bid basis after reviewing the footage and references outlining the scope of work. We can also provide rough estimates from an offline or detailed description. However, final quotes are always subject to review of locked footage and references.
Yes, we are flexible in terms of our pricing structure and generally push towards accommodating the client's requirements in that front.
For the typical project, we expect payment within 30 days from invoicing. For larger projects, we may ask for a portion of the payment upfront or midway through the project.
We invoice in USD by default. INR for domestic clients. Other currencies can be accommodated if needed.
Yes. For ongoing work, we offer monthly retainers or dedicated artist arrangements. This guarantees availability and often reduces per-shot costs.
Revisions & Quality
We have three rounds of QC for all work before delivery: first by the artists themselves, second by a team leader, and then third by a lead supervisor. Over 99% of all shots are approved by the client on the first version.
Yes, revisions are built into every quote. We refine until you're satisfied. If scope changes significantly, we'll discuss before proceeding.
Turnaround & Availability
We do work on weekends if the project demands or clients request us to be available. Shots turned over to us on Friday can often be turned around for Monday morning.
It depends on the demands of each task, but we routinely do turn work around in under 24 hours.
Communication & File Transfer
Primarily email for briefs, updates, and approvals. For complex discussions or reviews, we hop on Zoom or Google Meet as needed.
Google Drive or Dropbox for active projects. We create shared folders for easy access when necessary. If you prefer Frame.io, Aspera, or your internal system, we adapt.
Confidentiality & Security
Absolutely! We understand the clients concern and are open to doing that.
Files are stored on secure, access-controlled servers. We restrict project access to assigned team members only. Data is deleted or returned per your instructions after project wrap.
Credits & Portfolio
We respect client preferences. If the project is confidential, it stays confidential. If you're open to it, we appreciate being credited or allowed to show work in our reel after release.
